Living in South End
Rich History Meets Modern Development
Historic South End is located just 1.5 miles from Uptown and borders the beloved Dilworth neighborhood. South End had its beginning in the 1850s when the first railroad line came to Charlotte, connecting the Queen City to Columbia, SC and Charleston, SC. Over the years, a thriving manufacturing community sprang up along the tracks, centered on the burgeoning textile industry.
The area experienced a remarkable revival in the 1990s as restaurants, shops, and design-related industries discovered the beauty and versatility of the old mills and warehouses. Many of these historic industrial buildings have been thoughtfully converted into upscale condominiums, creating some of the most unique living spaces in Charlotte. Recently, the neighborhood has begun shifting to incorporate contemporary-style condo buildings, especially around the Charlotte Light Rail, positioning South End as one of the best neighborhoods in Charlotte for urban professionals.
